Contract
Collective Bargaining
CTA collectively bargains for our members working conditions including salary, planning time, length of work day, insurance benefits and paid leave days among many others. Collective bargaining is the formal negotiations between the CTA negotiations committee and the District's negotiations committee. The CTA team is selected by the President and approved by the CTA Board. The District's team is made up of an array of administrators.
The collective bargaining process produces the collective bargaining agreement or contract that stipulates the terms and conditions of employment for all CTA members and potential members. CTA leaders and staff want to encourage all members to participate in the process in order to help build a stronger CTA. A stronger CTA means power at the bargaining table. Power at the bargaining table means CTA will have a better chance to improve the working conditions and standard of living of CTA members. This allows CTA to improve the learning conditions of its students.
One of the simplest ways to participate is by providing your input to the CTA negotiations committee. This can be done by filling out the bargaining survey, attending a meeting or contacting leaders or staff. This input helps the CTA team construct its bargaining proposals. These proposals will be addressed with the District's team during the formal collective bargaining meetings. Another way to contribute is to participate directly in the collectively bargainging process. Please contact the CTA President if you would like to be on the CTA Team or on one of the many subcommittees that assist the CTA Team by dealing with issues like assessment or compensation. CTA is always looking for volunteers for the bargaining support committee. This committee conducts research, contacts members and handles bargaining communications for the CTA Team. One of the most important ways to contribute is showing up for events when the CTA team needs your support. This could include rallies, attending school board meetings or picketing if the collective bargaining process gets tense.
Please stay informed during the collective bargaining process by attending the CTA meetings at your building conducted by your CTA Association Representative. CTA will also communicate via the website, newsletters and Facebook.
