Jim received his first union card in 1973 as a UAW worker at Ford Motor Co and made his way through college working nights as a school custodian.  He began his teaching career as a shop and science teacher in a middle school in Michigan. Jim went on to teach alternative education, teaching in a two room school house on the edge of town.  He began bargaining in 1982.  It was also the year of his first trip to the NEA RA.  From there he never looked back and continued developing his passion for advocacy work at the state and national levels while holding office as president in the second largest local in Michigan.  Jim joined the staff in September 2010 and could not be happier.  He enjoyes the work and loves the people he meets, and adds, "Working with the best team one could have makes it all the better.  My hope is that everyone sees the Orange possibilities as I do - we can make a difference."
